Equality In Schools
School should be a safe place for all children, bullying someone for having a different sexual orientation than yourself is no better than bullying someone for being a different race than yourself. Either way you look at it, it's discrimination and that is not acceptable on any counts in 2011. Social discrimination has been going on since the beginning and everyone should be taught to be tolerant of each other. With tolerance there would less bullying and simply more awareness and possibly more friendships being made. The teenage years could be some of the most difficult so there should friendships and support around all the time.
The bullying over this particular issue no longer is just happening at school, in a world where everyone is always connected it follows students home through their social networking sites and cellular phones. Some of these harsh words have gotten so malicious that some teens have committed suicide. Hearings things like that in the news should honestly strive to make everyone want to be better and become more acceptable of the unfamiliar. GSA programs in schools and communities would help improve the relationships between everyone.
If GSA programs were in all schools across America and the world there would be more awareness about the bullying that goes on. Teens would have a safe place to go and talk to someone without feeling they are being harshly judged and inferior. And most of all these programs would open the eyes of lots of people to become more tolerant and acceptable of ones different than yourself. Everyone including principals other school authorities and parents should attend not just the students, everyone can improve themselves. Teenagers getting bullied may not have a positive outlook on their futures or on their mental well belling. Social acceptance is something that everyone looks for and should be able to get without feeling mistreated.
