By your generous donation you are helping GSA for Safe Schools implement several LGBT programs in Wisconsin's schools.
This fiscal year from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008 we are doing the following:
- continuing to support gay-straight alliances (GSAs) through direct contact with GSAs in south central Wisconsin and through statewide conferences for LGBT youth and their allies.
- addressing racism and issues LGBT youth of color face through our Take it Apart project.
- training students to teach other students and school professionals about Statute 118.18, Wisconsin’s pupil nondiscrimination law, and other laws that protect LGBT students
- continuing our high school student leadership programming, public policy advocacy, and network development efforts.
- working in partnership with the Madison Metropolitan School District to lead sessions on Bystanders to Allies (B2A), an anti-bullying program developed by Wisconsin Public Television. This is a middle school initiative.
- offering trainings to school professionals through school districts and working in partnership with the Department of Public Instruction to lead workshops for school professionals through Cooperative Education Service Agencies (CESAs).
- working with Diverse & Resilient and Teens Like Us to address high risk behavior of LGBT youth.
- preparing to host the exhibit, “Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals 1933-1945,” from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in partnership with Diverse & Resilient. The exhibit will be at UW Milwaukee and in Madison (location TBA) in the fall of 2008.
