Student Stories: Past Award Recipients
Hope Mueller Middleton Alternative Senior High 2000 Scholarship Recipient
After I graduated from high school, I took a
semester off and went back to college to
become a police officer. I did not fall in love
with the profession like I thought I would but
after a couple of years of working for my
dad's restaurant and other restaurants I
decided to go back to school for culinary arts. I
have been very privileged to work in Minneapolis
MN, where I lived for a short while, as well as
Manhattan, NY. I moved back home to be closer to
family but live on my own with my dog Kurry. (yes
I'm a chef it's like Curry!) I now work as a chef on
the north east side of Madison.
Over the years I have calmed down more and
found a better approach to expressing my
viewpoints on GLBT issues by just continuing to
always be myself and be honest with co-workers,
friends and family. I came out 10 years ago and
have been supported by wonderful friends and
family who also educate people on GLBT issues.
