Student Stories: Past Award Recipients
Jeremy Dowd Verona Area High School 2000 Scholarship Recipient
After graduating high school I proceeded to the University of Wisconsin-Stout where I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management with a minor in Human Resources Management. While attending the university for my bachelor's degree, I participated in student governance as the LGBT issues senator for two years and then was appointed as the Vice President of Students. I was also an officer of the "Out at Stout" organization that produced yearly events and provided speaking panels at the university to further awareness of LGBT issues. I also led groups of students in the department of Residence Life as a Resident Advisor and Desk Services Manager.
I graduated in June of 2005 and began my Master's Degree in Training and Human Resource Development. In the summer of 2006 I moved to the Minneapolis area and was hired by Accor North America as a corporate General Manager for Red Roof Inns. Currently I live in Saint Paul, MN and manage two properties.
Participation in LGBT causes has given me personal stability as well as the drive to make the lives of my co-workers, friends, relatives, and fellow citizens fuller through awareness of the causes of universal human rights.
